Welcome to the UK - in particular, to the ExCeL Centre in London's Docklands!
To be invited to host the 2018 World Congress in London was a great honour for the UK & Ireland Regional Section of EHEDG. Food and drinks production is a major industrial activity in the UK. It is the country's single largest manufacturing sector with a turnover in excess of £ 80 bn. It accounts for over 16% of all UK manufacturing - the sector employs 400,000 people in over 7,000 factories owned by over 4,000 separate companies. And today, with every food business operator in the UK having to have in place his own documented Food Safety Management System, embracing the importance of hygienic engineering and taking advantage of all the expertise of the European Hygienic Engineering and Design Group has never been more important.
So to be asked to hold the World Congress in the UK was both exciting and a challenge. One of our major objectives was that the Programme should offer the latest advice on fundamental matters such as cleaning, describe practical experiences of implementing hygienic design in factory and equipment design, and address important innovations in this field. We have done our best to fit into the programme all the fascinating and informative topics we wanted to introduce to you, and we hope you will leave our Congress as enthusiastic for Hygienic Engineering & Design as we are, and will make them an integral part of your manufacturing processes and so enhance safe food production.
Of course, if you can stay for an extra day or two, London would be very pleased to see you! It's only about half-an-hour on the Docklands Light Railway from ExCeL to the centre of the city.
